James Cox
James Cox is responsible for gas price modelling and market advice, along with the Iberian electricity and renewables markets.
He was responsible for the development of the Pöyry worldwide gas model (Pegasus) to forecast supply-demand and price at daily resolution in the major world gas markets. He has been responsible for writing the Pöyry UK, NWE and Spanish gas reports, along with market advice and training to new entrants and incumbents. Also he was the author of a publicly available report for Oil & Gas UK on the future of the UK gas market.
In the Iberian electricity market, James has been responsible for market price projections and has managed a major valuation project of a high-value portfolio involving both conventional and renewable generation. He has also acted as an expert witness to gas contract disputes, writing expert reports and appearing in front of arbitration panels. In Spain, he has also carried out work for clients investigating returns for wind generators, modelling the tariff mechanism and the distorting effect of certain market subsidies.
Previously, he spent two years at Marakon Associates, a strategy consultancy, where he was involved in strategy development and modelling in the financial services sector.
James has an MEng in Manufacturing Engineering (1st class) from Cambridge, focusing on sustainability within European manufacturing.
Steve Esau
Steve Esau has extensive experience focusing on carbon capture and storage and renewables corporate strategy.
Steve has over 20 years industry experienc, most recently at BP in a number strategy and business development roles, including commercial evaluation of potential CCS opportunities and the development of the company's gas and coal strategies. Prior to this he was a managing consultant at Caminus Energy where he worked on developing energy trading and risk management strategies for European and North American gas and power companies and provided regulatory advice to Ofgem. Before joining Caminus, he was a business developer at the International Petroleum Exchange, where he was responsible for developing the UK Natural Gas Futures Contract. He began his career as a geophysicist in BP Exploration and Production.
Steve has a BSc in Geology from Bristol University, an MSc in Applied Geophysics from Birmingham University and an MA in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (London).
Fleur Greetham
Fleur Greetham is Principal Consultant with expertise in the Benelux and German electricity markets and the GB renewables market.
She specialises in the analysis of wholesale generation markets across Western Europe, scenario development for market prices, asset valuation, electricity interconnection and assessing the value of green and embedded benefits. She also has extensive experience in UK renewable policy development.
Her clients have included utilities, IPPs, renewable plant developers, transmission system operators, UK Government departments and finance institutions.
Fleur Greetham has an MSc in Environmental Impact Assessment and a dual honours degree in Mathematics and Geography.
Andy Houston
Andy Houston joined Pöyry in 2007. He specialises in commercial aspects of energy markets, including development of market entry strategies, advising on contractual arrangements and managing asset valuations in support of M&A activity.
His recent work includes the valuation of several generation projects in the UK and Europe, modelling European wholesale electricity markets and authorship of a number of Pöyry's electricity market reports. He has also advised generators on their sales strategies and the benefits and risks associated with different routes to market. Previously, he has undertaken market design work for regulators and market participants in the electricity and water sectors.
Andy has worked in the energy and utilities industries since 1998, beginning his career with National Power, where he was involved in a wide variety of commercial and regulatory projects. Later, at Severn Trent Water, he was responsible for designing processes and systems to implement a competitive market for water.
Andy has a BSc (first class) in Geology from Cardiff University and an MBA (distinction) in International Business from the University of Birmingham.
Ali Lloyd
Ali Lloyd specialises in renewable energy and bioenergy strategies and commercial development.
He joined in February 2010 with 19 years of commercial experience in UK energy markets. He has a detailed knowledge of the UK electricity market including support schemes for renewable and CHP generators. Ali has performed a variety of roles in trading and risk management, business development, contract management, and regulatory affairs.
Most recently Ali was with a CHP and renewable operator based on Teesside in the UK, where he managed the company's participation in environmental trading schemes, co-ordinated its commodity risk management activities, and led its lobbying activities with government and regulators. Previously he has worked for a large utility, an energy trading organisation, and as a freelance consultant.
Ali holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Cambridge University and a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Princeton University.
Richard Sarsfield-Hall
Richard Sarsfield-Hall is a Principal Consultant who specialises in creating and executing business and commercial strategies in gas, power and renewable markets.
He joined in November 2008 and has worked with clients on gas security of supply, storage strategies, commercial tolling agreements, biomass power generation, hedging & optimisation strategies, and offshore wind farm investments.
Prior to this he spent 17 years with Centrica/British Gas plc where he worked on gas purchase and allocation agreements; negotiating the gas network code; power generation M&A; North American market entry strategy; and developed Centrica's global energy supply and asset strategy. Richard also has risk & change management expertise from the asset operations at 7 CCGTs, Morecambe Bay gas assets, a new build CCGT and 6 offshore & onshore windfarms.
Richard has an MBA from Henley Business School and BSc in Biochemical Engineering from Swansea University.
Mike Wilks
Mike Wilks has a comprehensive blend of regulatory, commercial, operational and trading experience gained over nearly 19 years in the international energy industry which includes previous senior roles for National Grid, Enron, and as a Principal consultant with KEMA.
He is particularly expert in all aspects of wholesale market design and operation including balancing mechanisms and ancillary services, transmission and distribution networks issues especially access, investment and charging; and respective interactions with large and small scale generation in liberalised energy markets.
Mike has an honours Bachelor degree in Mathematics, a Masters degree in Engineering & Statistics, an Executive MBA and is a member of the Institute of Engineering Technology (IET). He is also a formally qualified PRINCE2 Project Manager.
John Williams
John Williams is a Principal Consultant with expertise in gas transportation arrangements in a number of countries. Since joining the company in 2001 John has worked for a number of gas transportation companies advising on the development of commercial regimes and market rules. In addition John has advised a number of companies on the complex UK Entry Capacity allocation mechanisms.
John has responsibility for the development of the Pöyry Energy gas business in the Spanish gas market and recently supervised the production of a detailed Spanish gas market report. John has also undertaken detailed studies of the Netherlands gas market.
Most recently John has undertaken a major project for Bord Gáis Éireann, in which he was involved in developing the suite of business rules that will underpin the new Entry/Exit transportation regime.
John has an MSc (Econ) in Strategic Studies and a BSc (Econ) in International Politics. Prior to joining the Pöyry Energy John worked for a number of UK gas companies, including Centrica and Shell.
