Policy and regulation

Pöyry Energy has advised clients on the commercial impact of regulatory and policy aspects of competitive electricity and gas markets. This expertise goes back to the start of the UK electricity markets - England & Wales (E&W), Scotland and Northern Ireland - in 1990, and then the new gas market in Great Britain with its inception in 1996. Since then Pöyry Energy has applied this expertise in Western Europe - Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Ireland in particular, increasingly advising on the structure of these markets.

Liberalised energy markets typically (but not always) have industry-specific regulatory frameworks, rather than being covered only by general legislation. A regulatory framework might include industry-specific legislation, an industry-specific regulator, a licensing framework and a set of core industry documents.
